I am no stranger to hard work. In fact, I NEED to work in order to manage my OCD. If my brain isn't busy, I will start thinking illogical thoughts. But man, is there a lot to creating and producing a podcast. To keep organized, I have made an Excel sheet. It also fulfills the need I have for checking and rechecking things. Here is just a sample of what has to be done for each episode.
Episode No.
Title
Date outline or script was written
Date of recording. I record and edit on Wondershare Filmora, simply for the fact that I already use it for another YouTube channel.
Date edited (sound and equalizer set correctly) My wonderful brother helped me save a custom setting, but I still have to go in and set the setting for older recordings and edit out my "ums" and "you knows." They drive me crazy.
Artwork - I used Canva. This artwork is for my YouTube channel only.
Extro added to episode in my editor. It's basically the end of my intro music. I like the way I time it to end two beats after my ending words.
Resize art - I have to go into Canva and make the title and graphics smaller. Spotify won't show my entire thumbnail, otherwise.
Export episode to mp3. This, again, is done in Wondershare Filmora.
Upload the mp3 and resized artwork to Spotify. I have already scheduled five episodes.
Write a description for the episode, which also includes my social media links above.
Schedule the episode, then create one poll and one question for the audience (this is optional).
In Filmora, add the intro and artwork to episode for YouTube.
Export episode to mp4 for YouTube.
Upload the episode and schedule it on YouTube for same day it launches on Spotify, etc.
Create YouTube tags for greater visibility by using ChatGPT.
Use Tube Buddy to double check that tags are good and have it suggest other relevent tags.
I also have spaces for uploading videos and posts to Twitter, TikTok and Instagram once each episode is launched.
Whew! I don't know how anyone could possibly do this without a chart. I made a pen/paper chart in the beginning but was constantly needing more columns and kept crossing things out and changing dates. Some of the tasks above can be done on the same day, in the same window. I'm am getting faster at it, but I tend to make mistakes the faster I go. So I guess slow and steady does win the race.
Most people would say, "Are you crazy to do a podcast? You have too much on your plate already!" But I need to keep as busy as possible with this disorder constantly trying to take up real estate in my brain. And why not make it something positive? A legacy! Something that I wish I had available to me to listen to when I was diagnosed with OCD!
I currently have: a spouse, a home, two elderly rescue dogs, menus to plan, a full-time job, a business, a YouTube channel (a different genre), two elderly parents and now this. But so far it is fulfilling.
I am making a commitment. One Year. On Labor Day of 2024, I will ask myself two questions. Is this podcast helping me? Is this podcast helping others? I feel like one year will give me enough time to figure that out. I just hope I can come up with enough interesting material to keep it going for that long. I do have an interesting guest coming up and we have discussed some great topics to talk about.
I was afraid that by recording this podcast, it would bring some bad stuff back up for me, and it has, but, really, it has just validated that I have come a long way. A long positive way. And for that, I am grateful.
Please comment below. I would love to hear from you. I haven't received any comments yet on this updated blog. I don't think I'm marketing it right, but I hope people will find it through my podcast.
All the best,
-e-
